When the Google Checkout referral came out, it offered $10 to new signups. However, I quickly noticed that the banner would sometimes change to showing text other than the Google Checkout offer to other banners completely. Inspite of this, I'd figure I'd give it a try. Yesterday, that all changed when I noticed that Google had removed the $10 incentive and replaced it with a much less compelling "Sign up for faster shipping with Google Checkout," so the ads are now gone from my sites, sorry. Back to just the Firefox referral.

makes a little sense

That's probably what Google wants you to do.

That's just how it goes. PayPal used to have a $10 referral at one point when it launched in the late 1990s. Then it dropped to $5. Then it went away altogether.

I think there's something strange going on with the Google referral stuff. I wanted a button for Picasa, and selected the one I wanted and placed the code, but it kept rotating the one I selected with all the other Google Pack ad buttons and colors. Finally gave up and went back to the text link, which at least seems to always show the one I want. Emailed support twice, but no answer.
