I was talking to one of web designer friends and he was suggesting changing the size of the Adsense ad on the source code. Basically, he wants to use this ad block (which is 85 percent of the original 120X90 size) for those users who do not have the 1024 resolution..

Is this permissible..Will the most relevant ads still keep showing? Please advice..

You would be banned for breaking TOS, which I highly recommend you take the time to read--and understand.

Ann, yes, I too felt the same. But the ads at sites like Digg do seem to be out from the normal forms of display. is it because they are premium accounts or they have modified the sizes..?

I also think this is a breach in TOS - but why not ask adsense.

Definitely against the Adsense TOS.

Sites like Digg, New York Times, and many others may have privileges which allow them access to more customizable ad formats. But this doesn't mean you can modify the code yourself.

If you're still wondering, ask Google to verify.

I'd tell my designer to not even think about it, or I'd get a new designer.
