Big thumbs up!

I was recently contacted by someone from the Sydney office of the AdSense Team to join their Optimisation Program and he gave me some tips on ad sizes, placement and colouring.

I am ecstatic, because my AdSense revenue has doubled this week over last week! The new ad type he recommended is now by far my best performing ad type. Those of you who have gone through this process probably know which size that the big G is hot on.

A big thumbs up from me on the Optimistation Program and the AdSense Team! Keep up the good work! I hope all of you reading this attract their attention enough to get an invite to the program.

What coloring advice did you get?

My result was not so good. There new ad placement dropped my CTR but there color scheme helped me a lot so I can say it was 50/50 :)

On all my sites 336x280 did a wonderful job. There is no way I’m going to put anything else.

Also each site is different so you need to find out your own hotspot. Once you found a hotspot simply remove all channels and put ad.

They contacted me almost a month back. I responded in the positive hoping for some good advice and am STILL WAITING.

I can't belive how un professional they can be!

To each his own , I guess.

They twice recommended I plaster the 336x280 all over my pages. Right at the top and the bottom of each page. I politely thanked them for the advice and left everything as is. Turning your site into one big billboard would probably make you more money in short term but later on, who knows what effect it may have.

I bet they say this to virtually everyone, esp. now that they're pushing the video ads.

Two 336x28O ads on one of my pages would look as odd a two elephants in a phone booth.

Sounds as if you may be right.

In the original email I got there was this sentence:

"As this program is only available by invitation to a limited number of publishers, we ask that you please refrain from sharing this information with the media or with other AdSense publishers."

... so I guess I shouldn't give detail about colouring and ad sizes. Suffice it to say that the 336x248 size wasn't the one they specified.

I optimized my site when they contacted me. No difference. I emptied my filters when they suggested, no difference. In fact these past four days have been my worst four days in a row for over a year.

"As this program is only available by invitation to a limited number of publishers, we ask that you please refrain from sharing this information with the media or with other AdSense publishers."

So Google is aware of a hot ad size, placement and color scheme, yet it's a secret that can't be shared?

Am I just having a bad month or is this whole thing becoming a joke?

Remove all channels.

Was that recommended by Google or is that something you've found to work well on your own?

Judging from the other messages in this thread, I guess (but don't know) that optimisation advice changes based on the site's location, subject matter and design. What they advised me would probably not be what they advised you.

I guess the solution is to scale enough to get them to notice you and invite you. I only got the invitation after my traffic spiked suddenly.

It's interesting if not ironic that, despite all the data at the 'plex and the staff's experience in reviewing it (we hope), G still gives out poor or even bad Adsense advice.

I guess it just underscores the idea that the only good Adsense advice is to forget what everyone says and test everything--which is the most popular comment on this board.

The one thing I don't like is G doesn't balance it's general advice (to get the most clicks) by pointing out that certain "hot spots" are so hot they'll get you smartpriced.

When will G start contacting people to say, 'We think we might know a placement and color scheme that will get you out from under smart pricing.'

Still living in the Adsense Fog,

Noop, this is based upon my own experience; if you keep too many channel you will get some sort of penalty.

Sure, if higher CTR results in lower conversions.

Ultimately, you--the publisher--need to make your own business decisions, take responsibility for those decisions, and have the common sense to rethink those decisions if they don't work.

I don't think so as my channels are full and my income is still growing.

If you had a decline in revenue it most certainly wasn't from using channels.
