just wondering if using the google search with my adsense is worth it. I'm on the low end of the adsense foodchain with small/medium sites that i take care of personally, but have limited visitors as they are not very popular(working on it). I am considering adding the search as an additional adsense revenue, but i'm not sure if the benefits will out weigh the negatives, such as website integration, site filters, etc... any thoughts? thanks

modouno, my advice is do it. I have several sites and have never experienced any downside to Google Search. Earnings are not too high but they are free earnings. At the same time you are offering a good facility for your users to search your site. I haven't seen any downside at all.

Good luck.

You should also consider whether you have a better use for the space on your site than using it for a Google AdSense Search box.

A downside is you're likely to lose visitors who search and go elsewhere.

An upside is the intelligence you gain by observing the searches performed on your site.

I can see absolutely no reason for not going for the search box, and plenty of reasons to add it. For myself it generates over $600 a month. Secondly, as previously mentioned, it is extremely useful to see what people are searching for - perhpas cover areas that you were missing, or focus better on existing topics. Why not add it - surely if they are using the search box they have been unable to find what they want from your site - so why not earn some additional revenue from what they are searching for.

There are some sites and some months where I do better with search than with regular ads. I now put it on sites where I don't even run other ads. My overall CTR for search since January 1 is well into double digits; much higher than for content ads on any one site (or all my sites combined) Can't beat that with a stick. Plus I get to see the search terms, which is immensely useful in and of itself.

If we haven't used search before where is the best place to try placing it?

I've found that the AdSense search product generates extremely high CTRs and eCPMs. The only downside is that most of my users prefer navigation menus to search.

If nothing else, the AdSense search product lets you offer site and Web search without worrying about server overhead, bandwidth, or setup hassles. If Google crawls your site often and your pages don't take long to get into the Google Search index, the AdSense search product is a no-cost, no-hassle way to serve your users and make a few bucks in the process.
