Over the last day or so, I haven't had to login to Adsense. It seems to be using a cookie. Is this new a new development, or just new to me?

Yeah, that's probably it. And if you have an AdWords account it will log you in over there. Go to Google.com and do a search. Check the upper right hand corner for a note showing you're logged in, and a link to log out.
