It's been three days now since this change took place, and earnings are still at record levels. Is it possible that smart pricing kicks in per channel after long trends of under performance? I ask because all of the channels performed much better in the first couple of months with regard to EPC, and then seemed to take a very long walk downward. I wonder if there are two levels of profiling with regard to smart pricing, account wide profiling, and then channel profiling? At any rate, this whole experience seems like a "reset" button on my account was pushed somewhere. All of my channels were two years old, so Google likely had a very good profile built of those channels with all the data they had collected.
My AS earnings are falling since last year and some of the AS codes were places years ago so I thinked my structure of channels was partially the cause of the low performance.
It’s too soon to get some conclusions but this morning I noticed some improvement.

Assuming the consolidation works, I wonder what happens when smartpricing catches up with this new single channel?
Along those lines, I was wondering what would happen if instead of creating a new channel and putting everything in that channel, you picked your best performing channel and made that your sole channel - either by putting all ads under that one channel or by removing channels from all ads that aren't under than channel?

Although the old channels are no longer being used, I left them active because I will need the data from them...
That's interesting. All those old channels still exist and are recording no impressions yet your performance seems to be increasing.
I'm experimenting for a couple of weeks with a different method. I removed channels from my single best performing page and I deactivated and removed those channels in the control panel.
Of course we all have to remember that whatever is happening with individual accounts may be just a coincidence and we're on a wild goose chase. But I'm up for a goose chase.
I try to look at things as when one door starts to close, another starts to open. Last night I decided to give YPN another chance by replacing some AdSense with YPN. Hopefully Yahoo has their door fixed so it won't fall off the hinges this time.

I'm only trying this because I've been at a historical low of 35% of my 4 year average with adsense. I was stable for about 4 years(with the usual variance) until a series of steep drops beginning in January.
I am going to let it ride for another week to see because one day is not good enough.
However, there seems to be a great deal of flux when you consider the possibility of a 'competitive ad filter penalty' in the other thread. Something is happening. So maybe trials now may be meaningless as Google is tinkering with its infernal algos.
I should also say that a large drop because of channel consolidation amounts to the same thing as the OP since it counters Google's claim that smartpricing is channel neutral.
This thread is true and that is what I am doing for 6 months. I am disabling all my channels for 12 hours and turn it back on for another 12 hours. Never look on those CTR ECPM, IMpressions, but on the EARNINGS and you will see the difference.
I believe that Google wants to know everything about our website that they will do everything to track it.
Smartpricing occurs because of those channels.
EricDraven, can you specify how many of your channels were 'Custom channels' and how many were 'URL channels'?
Also, google's Channels control panel gives you the option to 'Deactivate' or 'Remove' a channel? Did you 'Deactivate' any of your channels?
I had one large content website / domain divided into 23 custom channels [with channel names like "Blue Widgets Section", "Red Widgets Section" etc.]. I did not deactivate or remove the old channels, although they don't receive traffic they are still active. I initiated this consolidation change because I got tired of looking over 23 channels in the adsense control panel.
Obviously we'll never know if this weird phenomenon I've described is something beyond a bizarre coincidence, but I am happy to see others trying to replicate it within their own accounts.
Anyways, bountiful oddities aside, my AdSense earnings are at an all time 3 year low, despite there being an extremely healthy group of advertisers in my niche market. I have a very high quality all white hat website, so I'm not exactly sure why the floor fell out from under me this year. I went from hundreds of dollars a day, to single digit daily earnings. Traffic for my site however is at record levels, all highly targeted. I'm hanging up my adsense hat, and finally moving back into direct advertising next month. I guess good things have to end sometime. :(
