Just want to share some tips regarding the Link Units. I tested both "vertical" and "horizontal" link units and run each of them for a period of one month (above the fold).

The results: The "vertical" Link Units receive more clicks and more revenue.

Example my per day for "horizontal" generated about $30 revenue per day; the "vertical" reached $80 per day.

Here's how the these two units differ visually:

Horizontal Link Unit:
Text Ad Here Text Ad Here Text Ad Here Text Ad Here

Vertical Link Unit:
Text Ad Here
Text Ad Here
Text Ad Here
Text Ad Here

It's the exact opposite for me. The horizontal units outperform the vertical hands down on my sites, illustrating yet again that what works for one won't necessarily play the same for another.

Opposite for me also. I guess everyones site is different and what works for one may not work for another.

Me too - I'm finding the horizontal work much better this time around.

What's the context? What's your page structure/layout?

Here's the layout of my site where I place the Vertical Unit.

HEADER IMAGE WITH LOGO - HEADER IMAGE WITH LOGO
NAVBAR NAVBAR NAVBAR NAVBAR NAVBAR NAVBAR NAVBAR

VERTICAL LINK UNIT I made sure there is no image in this area
Text Ad here so the link unit is floating
Text Ad here
Text Ad here
Text Ad here

My content starts here....

On sites where link units perform at all, it has been horizontal ones that work for me. I have no doubt that it largely relates to how I prefer to set up site navigation, which is using sidebars for navigation and ads, with a horizontal link unit above the content.

Here's my tip for link units: experiment and go with what works for your site. Listen to what others say, but don't automatically buy into it.

I'm bumping this post, because I put links back in a couple weeks ago, and they're actually working better than they did last time, but I'm curious - when you look at the reports by Ad Unit, and you see the impressions for your links ad - is that how many people the list of links, or how many people actually click on the link to see the list of ads, or both?

The adlinks impressions is the number of times the link units are displayed. The number of clicks on the ad links themselves are not reported, only the clicks on the subsequent ad listings.

My adlinks average EPC are the same as my average text link EPC. I had expected Adlinks to pay more as I had heard that they are part of the search network which supposedly pays better than the content network.

both. Links Units generate first impression when link unit is shown, second impression is counted when user clicks on the link unit and corresponding ads are shown.
