A few years ago I started a website about programming tutorials. I write those tutorials on my own, and for my luck they became pretty popular fast.
My website started to grow as well as my expenses that included hosting and the time I dedicated to my website which also featured a forum where I help fellow programmers. I decided that I needed some revenue just to be able to hold the website, so my first idea was to try and ask for donations, but I didn't have to much luck, since almost all my visits where from one time dudes that needed an answer and got it.
So I started looking around and tried with Amazon, the problem is that my audience is a not-english one, so the english books didn't look appealing at all, so I failed hopelessly with that.
So then I found Adsense, I started putting ads everywhere but got about $4usd a month, my best months where ones with $10usd. I was feeling down, but then I found a forum dedicated to AdSense here, and it was filled with tips from succesfull webmasters experiences, and I started to read, test and test. Suddendly my months got better and finaly on June 2006, I achieved my first $100usd in total:

I got my first check and I was a happy fellow. Not that I gained a lot of money, but finally I was earning something from my website. This gave me and incentive to keep working on the website to gain more.
I changed my website design, tried different ad formats, wrote more appealing tutorials and read like crazy the Webmaster World Forum. My site kept improving, now I had $50-$70usd months. I achieved my goals, and shared some of my experience:

And now, as for today, I broke two new goals.
March was a great month for me, my website got a giant leap and I went over the 100usd on that month, this was great since I earned double from last month.
And yesterday I broke another goal, my first two figure day.
It may not seem a lot, but considering my topic, and the language from my website, Im very happy with what Im being able to do with AdSense.
Now I got myself new goals and ill be working to achieve them, and hopefully sometime in the near future ill be able to live on the website I once thought it would be just a hobby site of mine.
So my advice to any newcomer that is ready to throw the towel, just keep trying and testing, add good content to your website, a good desing and soon you'll find your formula.
And read like crazy this forum, where there are kind webmasters that help us by giving tips and tricks, to them I like to extend a very big thanks, and hope that some day ill be able to share great tips like them and help new webmasters like myself :D
Cheers!
