I would expect smartpricing to show only on ecpm while ctr stays the same.
Another explanation I can see is that it coincides with school holidays on my educational site. Funnily enough traffic has only sunken about 10% according to my awstats, while the Adsense panel page impressions seem to stay roughly the same.
The CTR beforehand was a 3 month trend so, I am not sure what is happening. I can see no change usally to end of month effects in my stats since over a year. When I have a CTR plunge, then it's usually to a Google Search Engine Algorithm change that brings a different audience that seems to click less.
The long term stats seem to show that also last year something changes end of march that kicks back in September. This would somehow coincide with spring starting, Easter holidays .. On the other hand I speeded up my server adding another squid.
Plotting in SPLUS, PI vs CTR or ecpm shows the current fall is agains the trend. The graph shows that with more PI there is an asymptote towards a maximum CTR that seems to be achievable. 1.75 years of data.
Anyway it's the first time I have low CTR while having high traffic.
Anyway, how do you detect smartpricing? Does CTR plunge too? This would mean Google dicounts more clicks. If they just take a bigger share only the ecpm should sink.
Usually I always had a beginning of day ecpm peak due to click dumps. No w the ecpm and CTR rises sometimes during the day.
The Search ad results don't seem to show a drop, more like the opposite.
I also get my reports send sometimes 4 times a day since about 3 months, although it's supposed to be send only once. This would indicate system failures and/or restart Googleside. The reports I get from someone else are more stable. Although 6 a day while there should be two have happened too. :\
