So while I'm away traveling for a few days, one of the strangest things happens. I get multiple emails and a phone message about Adsense wanting to quote me for a nice email I sent them. They send me the quote and want my approval for a "report". I don't know if it's a partner spotlight, public report or just an internal report. My name is spelled incorrectly and the quote is not really from me. The tone of it is something I kind of said but it's not my style and has things that I would just never say. Instead of just a positive tone, it sounds like I think Adsense is the savior of the entire web and the best thing since sliced bread. My dream wouldn't have been possible and I would have abandoned my project. You might even think I would have just ended it all if it hadn't come along. I know editors tweak letters a bit for space or spelling but this was almost creepy. Even has me slam affiliate programs which I would never do.

I vaguely recall filling in something at some past conference or while at their headquarters last year but nothing quite like this. So I wonder how it came to be. Someone borrowing my name, changing the spelling, thinking it would never come to me and pumping it up for an internal report? Careless ghostwriting employee? Or someone else submitted it in my name (but I don't think so because a couple bits of data are correct and are things I might have said)?

I asked for a clarification but now I don't get any replies. Hopefully I didn't rock the boat too much. Now I don't know if it was used, corrected or discarded. Anyone else ever hear of such a thing?

On a side note: I wonder why it is that I've been out of touch 2 times in 4 years and both times are the only times Adsense contacts me about something and I can't promptly reply.

On that last question, that's Murphy's law.

As to Google's embellishing on the positive effect AdSense has on lives, I don't think they need to, I'm willing to bet they get more fan mail than Brittney Spears (puke).

Ann, what do you mean by phishing expedition in this case? Not sure what they could gain. As far as contacts, it was from a Google address, phone number and to an email account that I only use for Google and nothing else.

be careful, that email could be a spam. As long as you don't give your login info, you're fine. Be careful if there's a link in the email and asking you to login to your account. The email may be phishing for you login info.
