Using multiple <!-- google ad section start/end --> in forums

I am using vBulletin and don't get good targeting. I do get good targeting for the forum topic in general, but there are many discussion threads which get ads for the forums main topic rather than the content of the specific discussion thread.

I am just starting to try using <!-- google_ad_section_start --> and <!-- google_ad_section_end --> in the showthread template so that each individual message body is looked at rather than the page as a whole.

Does this make sense? Will it help?

I just tried that last week. So far no improvment in ad targeting. My site is well targeted for the main topic, but we have a lot of off topic discussion which I would like to see relevant ads for. That's why I'm trying this.

Google's site says it could take up to a few weeks for their crawlers to deal with the new tags.
