I setup some custom channels and allowed advertisers to target them under the new custom channel site targeting system.

I went to adwords and setup an ad and targeted it at my own custom channels only to find that the maximum CPM I was allowed to bid was $20.

This was a big supprise because my custom channels make more than $20 on average.

After trialling custom channels on my site for 1 week I have noticed a big drop in the ecpm for the custom channels and a drop in my overall earnings.

However, the strange thing is that the ad I setup with the maximum bid in adwords targeted at my own site was never shown.

Initially I thought custom channels was a great idea as it allowed me to offer highly targeted advertising to advertisers in different niches. However, if the price paid for this is a cap on my earnings potential its obviously not worth it

I feel that all Adsense publishers need to create an Adword campaign.

I just wanted to clear this up.

I have realised that google adwords limits the CPM an advertiser can bid to its daily budget which explains why I couldn't bid more than $20.
