Hello,

For example, if i have a dating site and advertisers like Properties, Real Estate, Horoscope are advertising on my site and they are capturing almost all the ad places on my sites.

My question is: What kind of ads i should allow on my dating site? I dont think that someone is looking for soulmate will go for Real Estate? Should i block them?

Regards

If all goes well, yes! Among other things like a diamond ring, a wedding dress, flowers, booking a DJ, honeymoon arrangements, lingerie, chocolates.. Think big and expand your content.

tabish, I like your thinking. Your approach is helpful to your visitors. It also conveys confidence. If you think your site is good, there's nothing wrong with allowing comparison. And you might make some money in the process.

On the more general question of "which ads to allow", it's the advertisers who determine which keywords will trigger their ads. Might as well trust their judgment about which keywords they choose and what sites they want to appear on. No doubt there is a range of approaches and even competence among advertisers. Some are professional and target carefully. Others might choose to take a shotgun approach, or might just be new to AdWords and not very good at it. If you're new to AdSense, you'll discover that the range and types of ads you see on your site will shift and vary from month to month.

SteveWh:
"it's the advertisers who determine which keywords will trigger their ads"

+ Your content in the contextual system too
(at least when it works)

So lateral thinking and building related content is known to work for some people.

Sounds like a plan!: get ideas for new content by watching which advertisers turn up in your AdSense ads.

Some ads can be a bit bizarre, though. On a page where "sonatas" (the musical kind) are mentioned with some frequency, what AdSense ads turn up? Honda Sonata ads! That's too lateral for me. But I still wouldn't block them. You never know, and if the ads never work, maybe they'll give up eventually.

Don't be so quick to knock the real estate ads - I do quite well when they're running on my site (and that site has to do mostly with local outdoor events in my state) If you're running a dating site, real estate ads might actually be considered relevant - what about the person who just broke up with a spouse or partner, and may be looking for more of a life change than just a new spouse or partner? I wouldn't rule 'em out, at any rate.

I hope for ads that augment what I'm doing, and don't detract from or compete with it.

Thank you all for your valuable suggestions. Specially SteveWh

I never blocked any of my competitor sites. They all are allowed to target their ads on my site, and they are doing so well. And after along experience of Adsense (almost 3 years) I never felt any problem in my business. My regular users are using my sites and those who wants to go, I never pull them back.

The only thing which I keep doing is, making my site more and more user friendly. I keep doing work on my site and my competitors keep biding on my site and I Never get any traffic loss because of that. I am happy with adsense and with my traffic also.

For the past few days I was worried just because I was seeing some irrelevant ads on my site. But now as you guys are suggesting, I am gonna watch this and I hope that it will be useful for my users.

Adsense is all about giving your users more options to enjoy the freedom of Internet. Those who are bidding on my site, deserves a Bit genuine traffic from my side.
