Hello,

Beside the title of few ads, i am seeing a tiny basket kind of image and when i take my mouse over that it says "this site accepts google checkouts" what does that means?

it means that google can do whatever they want with their ads.

Advertisers who use the Google Checkout (GCO) service can get this extra logo appearing on their ads. Google wants to stimulate use of their shopping cart system for both customers and businesses because it helps provide crucial conversion rate information that other search engines won't have, and that can be used to tune the amounts they pay to AdSense publishers and charget to AdWords advertisers.

Google wants GCO to work so bad, that they are offering it free for the rest of this year, whereas competing services charge businesses anywhere from 2%-6% of the total purchase price plus incidental fees. Google is literally pouring money into this venture.
