worried Google will shut off my account

Have you had a positive or negative adsense experience?

Hello. I've read some good and bad stories about Google adsense. I have it running on my site now but I don't get much traffic so it's not a big deal. I'm worried if I do get enough traffic to start generating money that Google will shutoff my account for some silly reason.

How has your experience been in dealing with adsense, positive or negative?

If you follow the rules, you have nothing to worry about.

I always had very positive experiences with Adsense. There's nothing to worry about ... if you follow the rules.

my experience with adsense is that it is very uneven. sometimes you earn a lot and sometimes pennies. of course it is depending on the traffic, but also other factors. overall, google seems to take way too much for their service.

I've been with Adsense almost since it's inception, and have experienced traffic spikes and lows with no problems. As long as you play by the rules, you shouldn't have anything to worry about.

The "Adsense is out to get me" mantra is just plain silly. Though I guess the paranoia of such does help to keep some people 'straight'. :)

At AA (adsense anonymouse) I learned something very useful:

Manage the things under your control and let god - I mean Google - worry about the rest.

There are two different topics here, so I'll deal with each separately:

"Worried Google will shut off my account"

Why? Most publishers don't have their accounts disabled by Google. If your site is good enough to pass a manual review, you shouldn't have anything to fear.

"Have you had a positive or negative AdSense experience?"

Positive. AdSense is a "set and forget" way to earn money (unless you choose to be obsessive and fiddle with it at every opportunity). AdSense may or may not be the best source of revenue for any given publisher, but it's compatible with other revenue sources (such as display ads and affiliate links), so unless your earnings are terrible, it's likely to be a profitable addition to your site.

Adding to what EFV said... in a regular 9-5 job these days, most people also worry if they will have a job next year, if their contract will be renewed, etc. There is a level of angst in both situations - online revenue vs bricks and mortar - both depend on the unknown to a degree.

Thanks for the info, that makes me feel better. I follow the rules so I guess there's not much to worry about. Guess I'm just being paranoid that someone will start clicking the ads over and over and Google will flag that as "cheating".

I have been with Google Adsense for several years now and have never had a worry. But, a couple of days ago I got an email from Adsense saying we had possibly been clicking on some of our own ads.

That worries me greatly because without Adsense, I would have to shut down my news website and look for something else to do because Adsense, a couple of other smaller ad services and my local ads are my ONLY income for now.

I am not stupid. I know Google knows every move made on my website to hurt or relationship, Especially a few cents at a time. I have bigger fish to fry.

I have been told that my competitors could start clicking on ads and cause us serious problems .. that too scares me.

But, there's always fears, like the guys said above. But, for now I am extremely happy with Adsense and hope to be with them for many more years.

You need to be just worried enough to work on diversifying your income sources.

You guys are living in a "Dream World" if you think that all you have to do is "Follow the rules" and you won't get your account canceled....

Honest people get their accounts canceled every day on Adsense. Its a fact.

I wish there was a better system in place to protect publishers.....but when you can't even talk to a live person at Google.....yes I could see how it could keep an "Honest" person up at night.....especialy when you are waiting for a big check.

I just read about a guy who had 100K comming to him and got his account canceled.....and he was following the so called "Rules".....

Just my 2 cents.

Just out of curiosity, how do you know that he was following the rules?

Actually , I work on the principle...

Follow the rules set by G. But more than that....

Understand the 'intent' behind the rule and ensure you donot go against G's implied desires/requirements.

(Such as don't fool the surfer into clicking, avoid too much blending so that sufer does not click by mistake, avoid links that look like site navigation, Avoid pics, that encourage clicking etc etc )

Better to be safe than sorry..

Wow, how many people here actually thinks that Google is God.

Worrying about these sorts of issues are about as meaningless as worrying about an earhquake occuring in the area in which you live.

Your more under threat to be kicked out if you don't make any money.

If your account makes 1 dollar a month and you would get a click attack, i think they do kick people out if it's not economically feasible to have a person on $15 an hour researching the click attack.

That would be a business decision on part of Google not to loose $14 an hour and after that $15 an hour researching where it's not worth it.

Since there are more small publishers I guess than bigger income ones the adsense team would probably spend most of their time chasing click fraud where it is not worth it.

If you stay within TOS - I agree. There are thousands of pikers out there making nothing or near nothing with Adsense. If you actually have earnings and show growth - Google should be very happy to have you. Everything you make - they make even more. At least that would be my attitude if I were Google.

Having said that, it is also my opinion that industry may matter. Gambling, overseas or other high click fraud industries and areas may cause Google to have a quicker trigger finger with spikes in earnings etc. But, I'm just guessing there.
