What is a good CTR for a fairly large site (or a group of sites)? I do not want to overplay the ads, after all they don't bring that big of a percentage of our revenue... I am trying to get a feeling at what point I should stop spending time on tweaking the ads in favor of other things.
Currently, I was happy with Page and Ad Unit CTR over 2%, but today I saw an "Individual Ad" report, and most of that is "under 1%".
Thoughts?
These are NOT MFA sites, fairly informational, none of these are in serious commercial areas.
Interested, because we can't really modify sites as we please, they have somewhat fixed established desings, so "playing for hotspots" will involve serious modifications. And I want to avoid it alltogether as long as I see that the ads have fair CTR, percentage-wise, and earn an Ok income. So we can move on - to direct ad sales, for instance.
The theme or niche is the main reason you can't get an answer, because some vary dramatically on CTR.
For example, a site on children's stories might get a poor CTR compared to a site about celebrity stories, but more then a site on pet medicine...
All in all, I would say broadly speaking that between 1.00 and 10.00 percent is normal, off either end of the scale approaches unusual.
I base that on results from my small network of sites, others might vary on this.
Are you referring to "Page" CTR, "Ad Unit" CTR or "Individual Ad" CTR here? This is mainly what I am trying to figure out.
