well I just ran a very interesting test that I am looking for outside confirmation.

I have a small web site consisting of 200 pages of these 200 pages I only show ad's on 6 of them.

I run on the right side a large skyscraper on all the 6 pages, it works well.

I went out looking to increase my ctr so I decided to do a little test.

what i did is the following, I placed the biggest box that Google has and placed it on the lease loading page of the 6( it will do only 3% of the volume of the site, but It's also a confirmation page ) , well after 3 months, my ctr has jump considerably, but it has not jumped on that page ( I use a channel to confirm this )

* what is a confirmation page: it's a page that tells me, that the visitor is really interested in my web site and it's products, for some sites it's the widget design page, installation instructions, 3d views of it... it's that page that only someone really interested would be looking at.

so I am looking for outside confirmation from someone else that this works and it's not a fluke.

mojo,

honestly? I have not the slightest idea what you are talking about...

- You have got six pages (of 200) where you run Adsense. (Why only 6? How did you pick them? Have you tried Adsense on the other pages?)
- You replaced (?) the adblock on the page with the lowest page views with a large rectangle. (Why that page? Does it fit to your page layout?)
- After three months the CTR jumped for all pages, except for the page where you placed the rectangle. (So what? What are YOU concluding from that?)
- The page with the rectangle is a strong page indicating that any visitor is really interested. (So the other pages are of lower quality? How low?)

What do you want to have confirmed?

1) It's no surprise that a page where people are really interested in, gets lower CTR. Main reason is: they came to explore your content; they did not come to click away from your content.

2) The fact that you replaced a skyscraper with a rectangle on that page is a bit unfortunate, because the page has now two differences: ad size, and content quality (according to your own words). So a low CTR can be caused by each of these facts (or a combination of them).

I'd suggest to put the large rectangle on one of the other five pages and get the skyscraper back on your "confirmation page". Then you might be able to work out whether the large rectangle is causing the low CTR, or your quality content.

But again, this is just guesswork from what I read into your post. Sorry, if this is not the answer you are looking for. :-)

it seems that ad is on the confirmation page, is that against adsense rules? (no content, just confirmation/forms)?

oops I'm sorry, I was so happy when i ran the reports today that I was flying like a kite.

confirmation page in my view is different from what is the standard confirmation page issued as a result of an action. for that goof up I am sorry. here is a better explanation : think of a funnel, when a prospect looks at this specific page they will exit the page and go somewhere else ( off my web site ) or continue to the last page and give me a call ( ring ring ).

so, I placed on that page, a big old box ad from Google, along with the large sky scraper. and the revenue has shot up like crazy and I still have the same percentage of calls.

in reference to the web site. it's 200 pages big, but mostly there are 6 pages clients look at.
all my pages run AdSense. They generate money. They funnel the traffic to this one group of pages ( the 6 main pages ). I can clearly follow the logic of visitors to why they hit these 6 pages. it's just this one page that had such a huge exit rate that I needed to do something. the skyscraper did not do a thing. so by adding adding this huge ad, I've kept my phone busy and I have be able to moneterize this leaving traffic.

I was hoping to get a confirmation from someone else that might have had similar problems with a page that has high exit traffic.
