Adsense Affiliate Program

I realize I should have *asked* first not after but it's too late now...

I have an Adsense account. My cousin is new to internet marketing but can barely work around a computer. So I am helping her to get started. I used my affiliate link to sign up her new Adsense account. But now I am worried that I used my affiliate link with my IP address.

Do you think this could be a problem? Her business is completely legit and valid - LLC, tax id number etc. Would emailing them be good or bad? Or just ride it out and see what happens.

It didn't occur to me until after that their may be a conflict. My biggest worry is getting my own account in hot water. If they cancel the commission I don't care at this point. Wishful thinking has me hoping I am paranoid!

Thanks for any insight, I appreciate it!

Provided she sets up the system and uses it like any other client, I see no reason for Google to worry.

If you start clicking on each others ads, I'd start worrying a lot (I'm joking!).

LOL definitely no clicking on each others ads. I guess I just had the paranoia running through me. But they approved it so I feel a little better ;) Thanks!

This is a chicken and egg thing. There's no problem with creating a second account this way for another individual. But you just have to know that, to Google, your accounts are probably historically linked. If something should happen down the road that causes that second account to get banned, even though the cause had nothing at all to do with your site, there's a good chance you will be banned too.

Sorry, but that sounds like complete BS. As long as they run their sites separately and adhere to the TOS, Google won't penalize one account for problems with the other account. No matter what computer was used to sign up.

Not really, one has to be very very careful with adSense.

Doesn't make much sense to link your future earnings with someone else's behavior..

It doesn't pay to take chances; Google clearly uses all manner of data to keep tabs on links between sites, it would be unwise to assume they don't for links between clients.

FOR EXAMPLE (and only for example!) Suppose our enquirer was not as sensible as he clearly is, and arranged with his cousin to do some exchange clicking on quiet days.

Granted, the act of mutual clicking (sounds a bit rude?), may be enough to ring them bells. But who knows?

Google would be pretty stupid not to join the dots. And while you can make all manner of assumptions about Google, "being stupid" may not be the wisest!

Thank you for your feedback, I definitely wouldn't have done it this way I had I thought it through. I see what you are saying and that is why I was concerned.

I have had my Adsense account for a long time now. I definitely don't intend on clicking any of my own ads or vice versa. Like most people Google has me paranoid as shown by this post. I had thought since it was all valid it wouldn't matter but clearly it was still not the best choice to go under my IP.

Again, thanks to all your replies.

I would think this is the gist of it, the accounts will obviously be related, but if you got the referral from another IP they would be no less related.

It is a legitimate situation so it should be fine.

You might have quoted my entire post when responding...

I'm not suggesting that Google doesn't keep track of referrals, especially for trying to root out shenanigans between sites. But I haven't seen any evidence here (or anywhere else) to suggest that Google will ban an account because of the behavior of the site that referred it, provided that there are no shenanigans going on between them.
