In any case I saw a site that contained an AdSense ad for itself. This is pretty logical, when you think about it: The site matched it's own keywords! I wonder how often this occurs...

I've never seen or at least noticed this happening before. It is a good reason why one should ad their own site to their site filter in the AdWords control panel.

I have had my own ads appear on my own site.

My site is in my own competitive ads filter now because of this.

Kinda like the "rinse and repeat" on shampoo bottles, followed literally you would grow old in the shower lol.

You'd need a big bottle of shampoo for that to happen ;)

As for adverts appearing on your own site, you could argue (taken to the extreme in regards to recursion) that the only adverts that should be switched off as standard are those that point to the URL of the page they are served on. But then you could get ads which direct people away from the best page on the site for their needs (as your second best ad may show - your most on topic one not allowed to show), this would be wierd! So given that, Google should have 'same domain ad serving' as an opt-in.

Either that, or you would run out and just stand there crying, not knowing what to do next...
