Adsense ads suddenly untargeted

I started Adsense on my site one year ago, earnings increased from an average of 200 USD per month to more than 1000 USD this month so I'm very happy about it.

But for about three days ads are totally untargeted - they had never changed so drastically before . And I didn't change anything on the site!

What could be the reasons for this?

Earnings per day haven't changed much in the last three days and CTR is just slightly lower than before - but I'm very surprised that people would click on those ads which are *totally unrelated* to my site's theme.

I don't know the cause, but I suffered a similar problem in December.
Suddenly, and for no obvious reason, the ads on every page of my site became targeted on just one specific topic applicable toa few pages only.

Stepping through every page via my browser and doing a "refresh" managed to get the Ads back on target (note that this isn't instant) it generally took about 10 minutes from the refresh before the targeted ads reappeared.

May I know what's your site topic is?

My site is on automotive topic and the ads are very related.

Have you checked what other people see?
Search for 'anonymous proxy' and view your site through a few of the results - see what the ads look like. It could just be something weird happening on your computer through personalisation.

If you decide it is generally off then I have heard of people changing their adformats to force a recrawl by mediabot, repointing your ads..
