Many Questions About How This Works...

Hi,

Was hoping some of the people more in-tune with the going on's of Adsense could answer this question for me.

About two weeks ago I noticed I was earning money on certain channels without any clicks. I thought this was strange, so I contacted Google. They were quite helpful and told me that my site had been targeted by an advertiser(s) on a CPM basis...thus earning money on the amount of impressions instead of clicks.

Truthfully, I didn't even know you could do that in Google...that advertisers can target specific sites in the Adsense network for a CPM run. I thought AdSense was a pure click advertising program and that advertisers could not selectively target specific sites.

So here's several questions hopefully some people can answer for me :

1. I don't allow Google Image Ads on my site at all. So obviously the CPM ads are textual in nature. Is there a way I can tell which ads are CPM and which are CPC?

2. I use the 160x600 format ads, which allow for 5 ads. Now, will the CPM ads be "mixed in" with the CPC ads in Adsense? Or will the CPM ads run by themselves - thus being one big text ad on the 160x600 skyscraper. I have seen these types of ads on my site recently and was wondering what the heck they were.

3. Can advertisers target specific sites in the content network? I see the "advertise on this site" here thing google puts in...but I thought that was a generic sign-up for future adwords customers. And if advertisers can target specific sites, how does this mechanism work? Will those ads show up all the time on my site? Randomly, based on the advertisers budget? And how is ad positioning determined for advertisers who selectively target your site?

4. And since I was just asked this by another potential advertiser, how do I explain to them how to set up their Adwords account to display on my site...and how to set things up so that they can either show up in the traditional CPC method or by the CPM method. Not having an adwords account, I'm not familiar with how the whole things works and what kind of controls advertisers have.

Sorry about all these questions, but right now I'm a bit confused on all the options advertisers have in how to advertise among content sites like mine.

Thanks.

Jim
