I only just noticed that on login to my account this morning I had a captcha code to additionally enter it. Is this new, maybe to stop the adsense extensions for Firefox etc that display your earnings?

This is common across all Google accounts including Google Adsense to protect your account. If you enter a wrong password one or two times it will automatically enables captcha.

;) would be evil if adsense banned everyone who used the login scripts for firefox... ouch
