Graphical "Ads by Google" Logo

I just spotted an instance where the "Ads by Google" is a combination of text (Ads by) and a gif (Google). It certainly took me by surprise. Has anyone else seen this or have I just crawled out from beneath a rock?

Thanks for this thread. Noticed the graphical "Google" briefly the other day and thought I was seeing things as it disappeared on refresh and hasn't been seen since.

It looked odd though, as the bottom half of the graphic was missing. And although it looked ok on my site's white background, it's a bit "in yer face" and really draws attention to the fact that the ads are, well, ads. Thought that was against TOS ;)

Mine showed same as well, I like the Ads by G logo better than the full logo, BUT rather the text than any of those. I've seen them off and on.

If they start making text ads partially graphic that clash with my look and feel, it is not good for me. If that's overreacting, then I'm guilty.

ditto

The image could be for additional IP & referrer tracking on a separate non ads serving machine, an additional security/click fraud level.

don't care... if it's really for that purpose, use a clear 1x1 pixel gif... or a small 1x1 pixel dot... anything but don't plunk their logo in my site!

I seen the logo as well... it looked weird & messy. Can spoil the overall look and ads placement on our websites.

Stoooopid if you ask me... especially if with all their resources they can't stop the bottom being cut off... nice one guys.

I haven't seen once since Saturday morning when I originally wrote about it. It did seem odd that they'd chop off the bottom of their lower case "g" and not make the graphic transparent. The one I saw was white on a light gray background, not too obnoxious but still it stuck out like a sore thumb. Maybe they've gone back to the drawing board with this one.

they're search engineers. they don't know how to make an image's background transparent(?)

Multiple browsers, settings, coding, etc. ... all the things webmasters deal with daily. If G can't get it right 100% of the time, that should not be surprising.

I saw the logo image on my site, plus a shaded grey-white line across the bottom of a leader. I am withholding judgment since I run all white backgrounds and the added color could be considered positive for me.

What I do know is that I saw the image yesterday and today is the best day I've had this month. Seasonal? My playing? G's maintainence?

Keep the $$$$$ flowing.

:) my site showed ads by [google logo] nicely lol

My belief: all clicks / impressions comitted with the new ad are part of a new server they are testing and they're putting an image on the page to ensure the security of the ad by making it load the image in order to verify the ip is vewing the page and not clicking the ads via url botting.

(Just my paranoia)

Many surfers have images disabled in their browsers, so google cannot rely on images to check anything.

BTW google had already experimeted with images in the textual ads. About 4 months ago a some ad formats had small image inside. Search for "Adsense Testing Ad Units Mixing Images With Text" if you want to see sample of such ad.

Sorry for the delayed response to this thread. We've been following your feedback about these logo formats here and other forums and sites, and certainly appreciate the input.

I can confirm that these new logos are appearing in a small percentage of ad impressions as part of ongoing testing to improve our ad formats. I'm not sure when the test will conclude, but at this point, know that it is only a test.

Hope that helps clarify any confusion!

I'm not sure when the test will conclude

The sooner, the better, they are the tackiest, cheesiest, piece of CRAP I have seen in YEARS!

DISGUSTED!

AdSense is close to being pulled off my 100+ sites...yep, I'm not a happy person...put 'em in flashing "You've just won a free computer"..."You're the 999,999th visitor to our site"...go for it Google...I can shut your ads down faster than you can me!

In other words...appalled.

Personally I don't have too much of a problem with the concept of the logos, but the implementation could be better.

I accept the need for an "Ads by Google" indication.

I would like to be able to select from some professionally presented alternatives so as to select a variant that will suit my site.

Logos are acceptable, but they need to be complete,of a suitable quality and work on a variety of different background colours.

I wish the better logos would be placed on the referalls buttons. Right now they do not look that professional. A google logo would look a lot better than red or blue text.
