Targetting madness

Different results for different domains

Hi all,

I am setting up a new web site that categorizes IT courses in my country and I am having huge trouble targetting my ads. I only get language course ads while my site is specifically aimed at IT courses such as MS Office, Excel, Apache, Linux, Windows, etc. Futhermore on most of the pages I use no words that could trigger language course ads.

Actually this is my second site. I already own a IT-related site on which Adsense targetting is pretty good. When I put one of the pages from my new domain on my 'old' domain then perfectly relevant ads appear after one single page refresh.

I have used the preview tool without much success, on my new domain it shows language courses on all pages. I use the URL filter to filter out the most language ads, but this in many cases leaves no ads for display. at all.

What is wrong? On my old domain the exact same page is getting absolutely perfectly targetted ads while on my new domain (which is not known to the internet public yet) I get all the crappy language course ads that won't please my users at all.

This has been said before on this forum: Adsense seems to be guessing what is the main topic for a domain and it displays ads relevant to the main topic if it can't find anything else. I suppose my site has been categorized as a language site or something.

I have also tried targetting my content differently without any success. Should I email Google about this? My site has been up for more than a week now, which should be sufficient time for the Mediapartners bot to get a good idea of my site and pages. I am even thinking of getting a new domain or putting my pages on a subdomain of my old site.

Your thoughts on this will be much appreciated. I want to have my site online before I go on vacation for some time and I will have to make a quick decision on what to do.

Sometimes the Mediabot needs to take second look at the pages and gets better targeting the next time around.

In the mean time - you might try changing the position of your Adsense code in the page that contains text more closely related to the ideal keyword set.

I've got one page on one site where adsense likes to show ads that relate to just a 3-character piece of the domain name. They relate to nothing else on that particular page. When I put up new pages on that site, the same oddly related ads show for a little while before they settle into being correctly targeted. I think it just takes time, and maybe a few rewrites.

Well, I suppose I will have to wait a little more then. If it doesn't work out, I'll just move the IT courses to my old domain and use the new one for uuuuhhh a site about language courses? :D They can have it the way they want it.
