I am curious if there is any downside or potiential downside for using channels to aquire as much specific data as possible for sites or individual pages. Your thoughts please.

Well... if you don't assign the channels properly you could stand to loose individual data.

Let's assume they are assigned properly.

I wonder why you ask this question. Whether you use them or not is up to to you. It doesn't cause any difference in earnings. Channels simply provide a way of having a closer look at your Adsense earnings. Is there any specific reason you want to know this?

One reason not to use them is that you might target your new content only at topics that will make the most money with Adsense, therewith ignoring the overall topic of your site? It's a bit far fetched perhaps, but I wouldn't know any other negative effect of using channels.

I don't see any downside. Unless G will charge a fee for sites using the maximum number of adsense, which is not something they're doing now. I don't think there are "punishments" for using channels in your site.

How could you lose data by using channels improperly? The numbers will still be reflected in the aggregate figure.

Thanks.

I believe he means tracking data. You can track earnings better using channels.

You can check the general league stats and figure how many games they all played and who is on top of the standings.

Or you check and track the daily game stats with the individual game results to gain a better understanding of a trend and chances for individual teams.

Your call.

Not a downside of channels in general but of a specific usage of them: when using channels on several sites in one account and multiple channels per site it may take more work to figure out your earnings per site.
