No Thanksgiving for me? Had the worst day ever for the last six month on the 23rd. Only goes to show that most of my "clickers" are Americans.

Actually I am glad people are taking the time to visit and share their lives with loved ones instead of hanging in front of a computer all day.

I am down about 10% but it will pick back up...meanwhile I think I will stay away from checking stats for awhile...too depressing. :)

So I checked my stats from November 2005 and the four day Thanksgiving weekend showed a very similar dropoff. But beginning Monday and all the following month were fabulous. I do serve the Christmas shopping crowd.

I heard an "online expert" on CNBC say yesterday that a lot of online shoppers are starting on Thanksgiving Day this year... Must be the kids, the apparel shoppers just ate, drank, and watched TV. And, oh yeah, fought with their relatives. :) They'll start shopping on Monday!

Thanksgiving 2006 was just like any Thursday for me. I've worked hard over the last year to get non US visitors coming to my sites.

Boy, when online advertising shuts down newspapers, magazines and brick and mortar stores - what a neurotic, obssesive stat-checking world we will have.

Interesting - I find that a US holiday weekend somehow affects my traffic around the world. I can't understand why a holiday in USA would reduce the number of people searching in Australia or New Zealand, but it seems to be the case.

It really takes a couple of years to really see what the natural traffic fluctuations would be for your site. My site interests mostly women and my traffic is always slower over any holidays and all of December. Usually this meant less earning but last year apparently advertisers were paying more during the Christmas holidays as traffic was still down but my earnings were normal.

Interestingly I get a burst of Amazon book orders in January. I think the holidays are over and women start spending on themselves.

Once you know the patterns for your site or sites you can budget accordingly.

Can't speak for anyone other than myself, but January's when I order all the books that were on my Christmas list that I didn't get!

January through early to late summer is also prime time for many travel sites. There must be something about going back to work after the holidays that makes people eager to plan vacations. :-)

Well Im in the Caribbean and Im being battered by NO Traffic, on Thanksgiving was kinda bad but Friday earnings done by almost 80% and yesterday was the first time since August 1 that I have made less than a dollar in fact 37cents, I just launched 6 sites in the last 2 months but Jesum Peas I cant manage this. If I make 1 dollar a day from each site I can at least pay for hosting but if Thanksgiving is bad what will Christmas be like. I know what I am going to do I am going to create a holiday site as subdomains in my main site, so I get Thanksgiving, Haloween, Christmas, New Years, Independence Day, labor Day, Martin Luther King Day and any others I can think about to top up the missed traffic.

Has anyone tried this method to counter loss of sales and clicks during this period.

The best solution is to accept and plan for the inevitable ups and downs, just as you'd do if you were freelancing or had a brick-and-mortar business.

(Compared to freelancing, Web publishing is a breeze. Try getting freelance assignments when everyone is at office parties or away for the holidays!)

Its a piece of piss, if:

a) you are all modern and have peoples mobile numbers
b) your story/info is truly worth having!

I've thought about having a section focusing on my topic related to Christmas but never got around to it.

I have a small section on my oldest site that I started years ago. It's basically pictures of stuff I've made. I never expected anyone but a few friends to find it but it gets more traffic than I expected. One page has all the Christmas stockings I've made for my family. Now every Holiday season it does well with AdSense.

So if you have a good idea that is also Holiday related why not try it?

Every attempt I have made to aknowledge the holidays have always fallen on deaf ears....

I guess thats because all my sites seem to be attractive to people at work goofing off on their computers...

LOL

I'll take it, theres more goof off days then holidays!

Google gave me something extra to be thankful for -- my new site is apparently out of the sandbox after 2 months and getting loads of search traffic. Earnings each day over the holiday have been over 2 times what I was getting on an average day before, can't wait to see what happens when traffic "picks up" after the holiday!

Interesting to compare this year's Thanksgiving to last year's for me. Last year, earning dropped to a third for the whole weekend, and started to drop on the Tuesday.

This year, Tuesday and Weds. were down, but only to 2/3 of normal, and earnings for Thursday through Sunday were only a bit below average. Lower traffic, higher EPC. FWIW weekends have been better for me this year than last year too....

Thanksgiving was one of my best days in recent times - traffic down just 10%, CTR double normal. And that is a big surprise, as my sites are about tech stuff, medium-sized farm animals (NOT turkeys!), and just about everything other than Thanksgiving-related topics.

Hah - I think I know what all those dads were doing out in the garage (WiFi, notebook, web surfing...)
