I just passed the $100 threshold and will be set to receive my first PIP next month. I put Adsense on my site Jan 28th, and its been a long road, but I finally hit that mark. This is where people jump in and say now its time to get $5 or $10 a day, then $100 a month, week, and then a day. I won't argue.
There's going to be another post in Google Search News that is a companion to this one, but for my Adsense experience, this is what is happening. I have about a site that pays anywhere from .02 to $1.50 a click, a good amount of the time its roughly .60 a click.
I don't think I have been "smart priced" I don't mind the "Ads by Goooogle". Any questions I've had that skated on the thin line of the TOS, I have asked Google directly.
For example, including the section targeting wrapped around my meta keywords, although it may have been a good idea on getting great ad targeting, they would much rather have the section targeting in the <body> instead of the <head> section.
Also, I checked with them about cutomizing the colors palatte. Since I'm using a different color then what is presented in the palatte, it was ok for me to customize the color.
I also checked about being able to open the click in a new browser window, this was not allowed as well.
On some pages I use colors that match the background, and others I have a color that is a nice contrast. On the forum, im using link units underneath my logo, along the navigation menu and it blends nicely. On the main site, Im using a 2 ad skyscraper on the left side under my navigation, and the right side under the google search otpion. One page particularly performs very well with the ad on the right hand side.
The targeting towards my site is terrific. I've allowed all the google bots access to the site, except the forum due to a phpbb hack that forced me to take down the old one, and now webmaster tools is returning a bunch of 404's.
My site does not employ any pop ups or pop unders, its nice and clean.
The content is all handwritten by me, except for 50 pages, that are from a friend.
I built the site to help people out, when I came up with the idea, I had no clue what Adsense was. There was the hope that maybe I would get revenue from advertising, but primarily the site is for helping out those in my niche, since its something that I have good knowledge about.
So if anyone has found the site useful, (I do have return visitors), then my task has been accomplished, and I made $100 on top of it. :)

Great news and congratulations!

You are well on your way to $200/month, $500/month, and maybe even $10,000/month.

How are your natural search results?

Have you tried to optimize somewhat for them?

A few top 1 & 2 good search results could turn your adsense revs way up.

My natural search results suck. I have a 2 word phrase that is the holy grail, which I can't place in the first 1000 for any search engine, but I have some long tails that bring natural hits. The ratio between the two is something like 20,000 to 10, heeh. Site has been pretty well optimized, I think, but am continuing to work on it. Just need some more IBL's and to be seen as an authority, which may be a little difficult since the top SERP is a .gov site. But ehh, just trying to help visitors one at a time.

Before I make a complete idiot off myself, can you tell us something, are you saying that you are happy to do this stuff without financial reward?

Or, as I sense, are you really trying to say, this is what I got, but please help me do better on the monetisation front?

I am just learning this stuff myself, but I generally find that if you want something, people respond fairly well if you ask directly

$0.33/day over 10 months is no cause for celebration, tis a start, but your description of you site leads me to suspect it deserves a whole lot more, if i'am reading you right

Ask, ask,

If you get answers, I benefit too you see, get to learn more :-)

I know he sounds far fetched.

You can try this:

"If you like what you learned on this site, please link to it"

Vite_rts, thank you for your bluntness. :)
If I can make enough to pay for hosting, no problem. I have a full time job outside of my websites. I do like the idea of a site earning money 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, don't get me wrong, but that was not the purpose of the site.
The questions I ask around here are primarily related to increasing traffic to my site, because I do know that with my niche, the payout from higher impressions with clicks makes for a nice chunk of change.
As soon as I make the primary focus of the site to be a money maker, I can very easily get caught up in the "how can I make money like Markus007", which is nice, but I'd rather be happy, then rich.

TheTraveler:
Welcome to WebmasterWorld, keep coming back. On a side note, not everyone that comes to my site has their own website. Generally, if they are at my site, it is due to a lack of knowledge that cuased their dilemna that my site can help remedy, but keep the suggestions coming, maybe one that we can all use will pop up

Congrats Jake,

Here is another freebie,

Join Amazon and create a page with related books to their problem/situation and have a good selection of them. Help them as much as you can and then refer them to the pre-prepared page for futhere reading.

See, that was worth $89 right there.
