PDFs and AdSense

We are ranking #2 for several keywords with some PDFs and getting many hits that way.
Unfortunately, these hits don't monetize in any way.
Do you see any way of converting them?
I could think of redirecting them to a frameset or a html site that shows in the browser and loads the PDF afterwards with JS or so.

However this would be cloaking, unless we present G the same redirections.

Also at the moment these rankings are only "single" hits without a second indented hit. Is there any easy way to force a second hit in the SERPs?

What would you recommend?

I would ask google about that. Since pdf's are downloadable and emailable that might be an issue.

The problem is, that ppl are finding only the PDF link in the SERPs for these keywords.
They don't come to any html page at our site.

I solved the problem by converting my last 20 PDFs to HTML.
It was a lot of work, but now I have Adsense on all the pages.
YEARS of high SERPs, but no ads! All fixed now.
PDFs are great for some things, but not for ads.

That is a good idea to transfer pdfs to html.

I agree. Convert to HTML and do a permanent redirect (not framing or cloaking).

...The Adobe PDF viewer is so awful that a lot of people are probably backing out without reading the document anyway.

Currently, I managed to solve this need with a Joomla CMS.

My site also has a lot of PDFs file for the visitors, but I don't want people just download them through search result. So the first step, is to protect the PDFs document from direct access through the definition in .htaccess file in the linux based hosting.

Next, I used a feature in Joomla (call wrapper) to wrap the PDF files in my page specific defined area.

With this approach, the visitor has to visit my page to read the PDF file. And for the reward, I put Adsense around this .PDF file hoping for some clicks from visitors.

Hopefully my approach can be one of the alternative solutions for your need.

Thanks for the replies.
I just realized that for some of the PDFs the keywords that ranked so high didn't appear anywhere on the site, that's why we don't get second results for them.
As a first step I carefully stuffed the download pages with these keywords.
We'll see if it helps, and later on we'll convert them to html.
