Filter updates slow?

Has anybody else noticed that filter updates seem to be a lot slower than they used to be?

It used to be a new filter entry took effect in a couple of hours, but now consistantly it seems to take a day or even two for ads that I've added to my filter list to finally stop showing on my sites.

ASA, any possibility someone could look into this?

I think it only updates once per 24 hours.

It must be longer than that. I added some filters yesterday morning, and the ads are still showing on my sites.

I'm not entirely sure when changes occurred on my site. Thursday night (midnight where I live) I cleared out my C ad filter (I finished running a test where I had blocked all MFA's).

I know on friday I was amazed at how few MFA ads where showing up. I thought the Adwords changes on the content side had gotten rid of the MFA advertisers. Here on Sunday I clearly see a return of MFA advertising.

It's not supposed to be 24hrs

On the C ad Filter page on google it says "Changes will take effect within a few hours."

Ok on the asense preview tool page it says this:

"Copy and paste this value into the competitive ad filter text box in your AdSense account and click Save Changes. It may take up to 4 hours for ads linking to these URLs to be filtered from your pages."

I added around 100 URLs to the filter the other day, and it took about 48 hours to take effect.

I wonder if advertisers' filters are as slow?

I finished running a test where I had blocked all MFA's

then that "test" is worth thousands of dollars, get it patented quick ;)

Yes. I have noticed that they are taking longer than normal to stop the ads. I thought I had not entered the url correctly. Took well over 48 hours.

A few ads I placed in the filter two months ago are starting to show again?

Does anybody know if adding "somesite.com" to the filter would also filter out "www.somesite.com", and vice versa?

joelgreen, adding somesite.com will filter out, www.somesite.com, somesite.com, example.somesite.com, and somesite.com/example and all other variations.

It was taking so long and some pages were so bad that I had to take ads off altogether.

Anyone else still witnessing extremely slow filter list updates?

I added a few sites 2 days ago and they are still showing.

Yes, I added some last week, yet I am still seeing the ads on my sites.

This sucks, I have a company swamping my pages with 5 cent clicks.

Normally I'd add them to the filter and they'd be gone in 12 to 24 hours.

So it seems the competitive ad filter is broken?

It takes a while for the filter to pick up changes.

BUT, did you get the right URL?

  • The displayed URL is not the one to block
  • You need to blacklist the URL you get from the preview tool, that one will work.

In theory adwords advertisers aren't allowed to make them different (only shorten them), but Google doesn't actively enforce that part all too much. If you find them different, try to report them in addition to blocking them, there is always the chance they might get kicked out completely.

You make an important point, but yeah I already used the preview tool, the url isn't the one displayed on the ad.

It seems they are just taking longer these days to update the filter, perhaps a glitch resulting from the new landing page quality score algo?

    Hi guys,

Just signed up been lurking about for a bit.

Adsense help says 48 hours but I have had it go as far as 72

Also watch www. Paste the url in without the www and if it flips to the www included in the adress that is the one you must block.

    And watch hyphens 8bestsites, 8-bestsites

If it doesn't appear in the preview try typing it in or refresh the page and it may show the second time.
