I was thinking the idea of closely targeted image ads is not bad.

If you are using image ads, could you please share if they have improved. Has the look improved?

Could you also share your industry?

Any updated info will be helpful about google image ads.

I put image-only ads on my low performing pages and those pages became clickable. But I'm not sure if Google always has images to serve on my site, so it may show empty space instead of image from time to time.

Image-ad earnings did not change for my niche. First time i tested image-only ads on my site about 3 month ago. Payout was the same per click. But image ad click payout is much lower than regular ad payout. So I would not suggest to change to image only ads unless page is performing poorly.

Now Google also serve video ads. Few ads I saw on my site were image ads with play button. When user clicks play button it loads and play video (I think so, never tried). Now the tricky thing about video ad is you will be payed only when user clicked play button, and than clicked ad again when video finished. So you need 2 user clicks to get one click in your reporting. Something similar to "link units". I may be wrong here, but it seems to me I saw this info in adsense faq.
