Does using Ad Links effect the ads in Ad Units?

This seems like an obvious question, so sorry if its been covered before...

Can someone tell me if having a Link Unit will effect the ads that show up in Ad Units.

For example, if I have a Link Unit as the first thing in my html, will the Ad Units below it get lower paying ads. Or are Link Units and Ad Units unrelated?

Some days ago there was a post saying that you should add a link unit if the inventory is limited because it won't have an effect on the regular ad units.

You may well see the same ads in the links lists that you see in the ad units....

Strangely, I have about 60 pages where I recently removed the leaderboards (after a year) and left the AdLinks because the leaderboard targeting was always way off and the link units right on!

On all my other pages the AdLinks and leaderboards are always pretty much in sync.
