I always thought this would be huge moneymaker for google as well as publishers, a 300x250 block of contextual ads next to a video. User gets bored with video, user clicks adsense. Of course it is currently banned via TOS but I wonder if that might change with the latest aquisition. Good idea? Bad idea?

I have a bunch of pages with embedded you tube video, the TOS is worded rather funny about that but G seems OK if it's your video, and there are a number of sites serving nothing but others videos with G ads.

You should always ask G before risking your account but I'm pretty sure it's fine.

Hi,

I think that G's issue is when you make money out of AS on pages with SOMEONE ELSE'S video, that you don't have copyright permission to use. In other words, they do not wish to be part of theft of (real/potential) revenue from the legitimate copyright holder.

Your own material is fine.

I have a site full of multimedia, including video clips, for which I have the appropriate copyright permissions/waivers. AS loves it.

I recently got an email from Google encouraging the embedding of Google video, so the issue with video as such should be minimal (technically it's a flash animation)

Since they now own YouTube I hardly see how it can be much of an issue to them. If they have copyright violations on YouTube and encourage linking to it, it's their problem to deal with.

damon hit the nail on the head.

the fact that google does not have adsense next to the google vids should tell you all that you need to know.
