Hi everybody, im new to the whole website design and making money from it scene. At the moment i have a free hosting site on Yahoo Geocities where i am just creating a website full on stuff on guitars for beginners and have put some banners on it at the top relating to guitars using adsense. At the moment i am a student so i dont want to waste money so i am planning on making money from the free site in order to then put all the funds into getting a .com domain from yahoo for x dollars a month? Is this an okay way to go about setting up a website from the internet?I dont want to waste any money as it is an almost fun hobby venture for me? Is something fundamentally wrong with my plan?Comments and suggestions would be great thanks.

Anyone else doing the same as me, thoughts and opinions?

Furthermore if i am not looking to spend any of my money which is not made from adsense account how can i get more traffic once my site is complete?

Thanks

Most, if not all of the time, when you want to earn something you'll have to invest something.
You say you don't want to invest in a .com domain. It will cost you $4.99 a year.

Imagine your site will be a success and later on you want your .com domain you will be wandering how to keep rankings in the search engines and all your inbound links that will be lost. And all of that because you want yourself to save a $4.99.

So my advise me be obvious. Get your OWN domain.

Sounds to me like you are violating the AdSense TOS. You are only supposed to put AdSense on your own site.

Don't get your domain name from yahoo, there is almost always a better registrar out there with a sale going for under $2. The second youer should cost you around $5 once the sale is over.

You should also be able to get a cheap host for a couple of bucks a month.

Never, ever buy your domain from your webhost. You want ot be able to quickly change to another host if necessary.

Seriously, get your own domain and hosting. A year will cost you about as much as buying a lunch.

At one time you could not post adsense code on free servers, but that limitation seems to have gone.

I think you may have problems with a free host. The problem is that to enable free hosting, they have to show ads on your site. Therefore the adsense code may have problems displaying, and you have the potential problem of being in violation of the adsense TOS if the ads shown by the host are ones that Google may not approve of.

You avoid a huge minefield by having your site on a cheap hosting plan with no hosts ads. The cost really is minimal. Even if you don't make a lot of money initially I think most people manage to cover hosting costs with adsens.
