How to increase Adsense shows in niche market?

This topic has almost certainly been covered before, in which case please could someone post a link...

I run a highly niche site about Indigo Widgets. I get loads of unique visitors each day. However, looking at my Adsense stats, I only show x ads each day (x is a lot lower than the number of page impressions), and often the Adsense code shows my "alternative" URL which is a banner ad on another network. Presumably because, as this is a niche site, there aren't enough advertisers to show Google ads all the time. (The ads _are_ highly targetted though.)

I want to increase my Adsense revenue by showing more ads (I am already doing as much as I can to increase the CTR). Are there any tips on overcoming this aparant barrier to the number of ads my site can show?

develop other articles of interest to your niche - that are a bit broader (more advertisers) - and "lead" / direct your users there
