Should I add an Affiliate link?

Will it harm AdSense performance

I have a general information site that has been running for nearly 3 months and is beginning to show a reasonable return from AdSense(long way to go before I can retire though!)

I've been invited to add an Affiliate Link. The site concerned looks OK and fits with a few of my pages.

a) Should I give Affiliate links a go? What could I lose?
b) Should I remove the AdSense from the page or keep both Adsense & the Affiliate link?

Thanks for any advice.

Well, the usual definitive answer: It depends.

Adsense and affiliate links work on some sites and not others. On some sites they work on some pages and not others. Two publishers can try Adsense alongside the same affiliate programs and come up with different results. One publisher can run Adsense alongside different affiliate programs and can find different results.

The only way to find out if it works for your site is to try it.

Affiliate links and AdSense ads complement each other nicely on my site. If you do a really good job of showcasing your affiliate partners, you may cut into your AdSense revenues, but that's a small price to pay for improved revenues overall.

One caveat: All affiliate programs and links are not created equal, and it can take a lot of experimentation to learn what affiliate programs work well with your topic and audience. By comparison, AdSense is an easy "set and forget" solution.
