I've been noticing that several competitive Urls that we've had blocked for some time are starting to show back up on the site. I've dumped the list for a couple of days, then put them back in, next day there back on the site! Is anyone else seeing this?
I'm beginning to think it's just there to make us "psychologically" feel better. It sure doesn't help the CTR!

Yes I've noticed this too! MFAs I've filtered the day before are still appearing today - that's more than 24 hrs. already. Filter not working anymore?!? CTR also the lowest in months!
It usually takes about 4 hours for your changes to take effect, so you'll continue to see ads for these sites on your pages for a little while. If filtered ads are still appearing after 12 hours, please contact us.[google.com...]
Or another thought: could these be case-sensitive? I thought they weren't, but this particular advertiser uses caps in their URL. Maybe I need to put them in the filter that way.
The filter cannot be case-sensitive, because you couldn't enter something into your filter list with upper-case letters even if you wanted to, it converts everything to lower-case when it saves your list.
All that being said, I too notice that very occasionally, the system displays an ad that's in my filter list. But then I refresh and the ad goes away and I don't notice it again. So, when this does happen, in my experience it's very transitory.
hunderdown - This is something I've actually been noticing for quite sometime. It didnt' concern me as much before because to be honest with you I never made much with this site (lazy clickers no matter what you put on the page).
Recently our site was recognized by a major site and we've gotten the spotlight and a ton of daily traffic but it's only for one aweek. We're enjoying the traffic for all it's worth! I've only got the spotlight for a couple more days, and just wanted to get it while it's good.
I haven't use the www. and I have tried case sensitive entries. I've often wondered if it might be because there isn't enough advertisers for my niche?
I know that Google has commented regarding ads apppearing for a few hours after they have been blocked, however last week I noticed that the delay had far exceed the delays I normally experience. I almost wrote to google about this last week.
Second, please make absolutely sure that you are just filtering the domains presented in the Preview Tool. Do not go by the domains in the ad copy - they are useless for blocking. Several advertisers are still using redirects towards other domains, in other words: the ad says "www.widget.com", but the click goes to "www.widgettracker.com" which redirects to "www.widget.com". So, blocking widget.com is effectively useless.
Also, beware of "scammy" urls. It's best to only cut-and-paste the host part of a url without the "www" part. But I have one scammy url in my list who's host is [something like] www-scammyhost.com. When I originally filtered this ad, I entered it as scammyhost.com and then couldn't figure out why it wasn't filtering.
I also have a scammy url in my list that is [something like] vvidget.com. It's a common, recognizable English word you'd expect would start with a w, but theirs is 2 v's.
These guys get sneaky, so beware!
Some ads employ redirects making them very hard to block. The beginning of the url will have [pagead2.googlesyndication.com...] and the end of the line will be another URL (the landing page) appended with &client=ca-pub-(your client ID here).
That is easy to block as it's just a case of blocking the domain EG spammymfa.com. One problem is that advertisers keep channging the url as we block them.
In some cases, you will see another URL (or more than one) part way between the two listed above. This may indicate a redirect. Add that domain to the filter as well. I'd also click on the ads by google at the top of the ad block and report that link to Google as a sneaky redirect. I've seen a couple of ads dissapear by doing this.
If you can't easily block them they are either changing their landing page / domain which you can't do anything about unfortunately, which is why we are asking for blocking by advertiser. If it's a sneaky redirect adwords may well remove the ad if you notify them.

Meanwhile, back on topic...
Coincidentally to this thread, starting yesterday I am getting a new ad in Norwegian (my site is in English the USA) which is related to my niche but nevertheless is in Norwegian. I filtered it yesterday afternoon and it's still showing now, more than 24 hours later.
ASA, is this normal, or is there a box somewhere in the plex that you can give a kick?
Man, I can't remember if it is contol or command and click the mouse. I have been on this clunky shifting Chevy (PC) so long I can't remember!(my G3 powerbook died last year, it was #233 of the first run) Can't wait November when I can get my new Apple Pro powerbook, I mean Delorian.
Viva la Adsense!
I always love when the PC boots. The hard drive sound like a hen house full of chickens pecking up corn kernels off a wooden floor.
The new macs just go, vooooooooooome...

Also who do we talk to to make the filter list limitless?
Why 200, why not 250? 300? 500? infinite?
AdSenseAdvisor, are you still here?
