I have a highly trafficked classifieds site. <snip> The users generate all of the content. I have been told there is big potential here for adsense ads.

I'm right in the middle of hte busy season (only about 3-4 months of the year) and I dont want to screw up a lucrative time.

Any specific spots to place adsense ads on a site like this? Any specific type of ad unit / link unit works best with a site where users post listings?

Any help here would be appreciated. And again, sticky me for some personalized advice:)

The only thing you should really be careful about is people posting ads about banned adsense items. Example, firearms, tobacco, gambling, etc..

If you can control that, then by all means, you should try it!

As for ad placement. Well, anywhere outside the ad is fine, and I do not think it would tick any of your users off. You might run into trouble when placing ads INSIDE their classifieds ad.

What you might want to try is, placing ads inside a classifieds ad only when an unregistered (not logged in) users is viewing the ad.

I run three classifieds web sites with adsense... just make sure you approve all ads and don't even allow people to edit them. If they want to edit them, have them close it and start a new one. This way you control everything that is posted. It doesn't seem to matter where adsense is. All three sites do well... Quality traffic = clicks

Sorry,
In your sticky You did not explain that it was a classifieds site, looked affiliate or Auction to me. Same advice though...or unbusy the front page.

"unbusy the front page"

Why would this help? I thought more content was good on pages for adsense...
