The new Report by Individual Ad

It's nice but I can't find a use for it

I like new features but the new Report by Individual ad unit has be stuck wondering what practical use it can have. If I have 10,000 ad blocks and it says it displayed 38,750 individual ads - ah, so what? [these numbers are made up]. I have no control over the process of how ad blocks are filled, I can't see the the speicifc ads that are displayed or clicked nor can I get a report based on these specific ads.

So maybe I am missing something. What practical value do they have?

If you don't know what I am talking about, go to Advanced reports and look under 'Show Data By'. the [?] will give you more details.

Since my standard as is the 300x250, it's brings pracitcall an average how many ads are in average in this.

I downloaded all the historic data for this one and ran that through my Excel sheet, dividing the figures for individual ads by the figures for ad blocks. It's interesting to see how this develops over time.

But I agree, given how little control we have over the individual ads, this is not as useful as other features might be (and no, I won't go into that topic again). :-)

Seems to me what we need to be able to know is exactly whose ads were clicked and what those clicks earned.

My guess is this means Site Targeted ads are now being placed individually into Ad Units. In other words mixed in within one ad unit, say having 4 ads, one ad might be Site Targeted, the rest Pay Per Click.

Again I'm guessing that ad units will now no longer be Site Targeted or PPC, but the individuals ads themselves regardless of the Ad Unit format, may or may not be Site Targeted. Historically an "Ad Unit" was one or the other, now I'm inferring they can be both.

Note: I can confirm that Adsense will stop, and resume, site targeted ads with your written request. This is account wide, it cannot be done on a per domain basis.
