Very low click through rates, but good earnings

I get very decent earnings with my forum pages from adsense. But, because visitors will look at a lot more forum pages than they would the rest of the site, the click through rate is very very low.

My question is whether it is counter productive to have adsense on my forum pages? Is it driving the overall CPC rate for the site down?

That's a good question, but the only answer to know how something is going to effect bottom-line earnings (you may improve eCPM, but you may lower something else) is to try it.

If it helps, what I do is display Ads selectively on the following criteria:-

1. Guest? Serve Ads.
2. Logged in member? Only serve ads once every 10 page views.

All of this is easily controlled with cookies.

Works for me, your mileage may vary....

What I do is place ads only on the main page. That keeps the CTR from going too low.

Most users will not click on many ads within the forum.
