How does Smart Pricing work? By page, domain, or account?

This has been addressed before and perhaps answered sufficiently. But since I keep seeing wildly fluctuating epc, I thought I would ask for input. (And when I say wild I mean that for some days, I get consistent earnings of x and then for a few days I seem to get consistent earnings of .7x---yet my traffic and page views do not change and cannot account for this. I noticed this happened when I used websearch.) So, here's my real question: let's say you are doing well on one particular form of content and decide to branch out into another area that could deliver more traffic but where the individual clicks will likely pay less. Could this drag down the overall epc of your whole account? If so, you could be shooting yourself in the foot. Also, if so, a preventative would be the option to have separate accounts (which we can't have) to protect the epc of one form of adsense traffic from googing up the epc of another form of adsense traffic. However, if pricing calculations are computed by google for each individual page, then this shouldn't be a concern as you should be able to add whatever content areas you like under the banner of your one account and not worry about your overall epc being affected by smart pricing. Was I too convuluted? Input?

BTW, the reason I'm asking is that I have 2 or 3 other sites that I would like to add adsense to since they are now taking on decent traffic---I just don't want to mess up the cash cow that currently runs adsense by doing this.

I don't know the inner workings of smart pricing so I'll leave that to someone else to address, but even with a site about a specific topic I find that EPC for ads can vary greatly. On one of my sites I have implemented a channel for each of about 10 sections of the site. 2 channels account for the vast majority of clicks and have an EPC of X, most of the rest have an EPC of about 0.3X and one channel averages 7X. The 7X channel shows ads that are for a different core group of services than the X channels due to the specific focus of that section's content, though both sections are closely related.

well, here's the thing. Rather than even "slightly risk" goofing up my adsense earnings on the one site, I am considering opting out of adsense on these other sites and using another contextual program, the one that for some unknown reason we are not allowed to mention here without the mention being deleted. spelled backwards, of course, it is ranosda.
