Skyscraper vs. Leaderboard

Which one do you prefer?

Hi,

This's is my first post, my first question:

What do you think is better: A 160x600 skyscraper at the left of the page or a leaderboard at the top.

I'm now using a skyscraper, but maybe I'll try the leaderboard. I think the skyscraper is less annoying the visitors, but what about my earnings? Smeone ever tried?

You could always test and compare the leaderboard using channels. I agree though that skyscrapers look better. It looks more like your page is a content page first with ads on the side.

When using skyscrapers be sure to set them to the top of the page. That made a big difference for me.

Moving to the top I did do this morning (3:14 PM ATM).
It's quite hard to test, because my site is a (Dutch)startpage-portal with 6000 cached subdomains.

My results aren't that good the last weeks, so I'm trying to improve the ads.

That depends on where your main content is.

Our main content continues below the fold, so most users scroll down about 20%. We had more success with putting the skyscraper halfway down the page as a result (I assumed from this that people tend to click after reading our content rather than before).

All the subsites are Link-collections (I don't know how you'll call it). I think that's also a 'problem'. Almost every visitor will click through, but there are about 100 choices to click. I boosted my earnings by calling the google ads 'Top 5' but Google didn't like that=).

I also think that the moderators of all the pages won't like a big ad at the top.

I think I'm not going to edit the adpositions and formats before it's possible to place 2 ads on 1 page. Then I'll put one ad at the top and one at the bottom.
