Blocking with the Content filters

Anyone else use it?

I am busy blocking psychic adverts with the Content filters because of complaints from a member, whom I agree with.

The other adverts that come to replace the banned ones are not so bad/scammy/outragious.

What decides the ranking of the adverts that show?

Are the ones I blocked the best paying adverts, and less paying adverts are now being seen?

Seeing I am in a blocking mood, is there anything else that could be blocked to allow more popular or profitable adverts to show on the page?

I seemed to have with the psychic adverts, a few sites taking up heaps of advertising space, with them gone there is more variety in the adverts.

Are there other adverts that dominate google adsence that could be blocked as well?

Just tossing some ideas out...

Just another note...

If Google choses the adverts by the content of the page, which seems to work 99% of the time, then why on earth does my forum get hit with Psyhic and religious adverts?

There is nothing on the board that I can find that will justify it.

Yoo Hooo!

Sorry to bump my own thread, but has anyone else had a plague of these types of adverts?

I have blocked over 10 so far only to see more crawl out of the woodwork. Why psychic adverts?

Is there a keyword tool that I can use with adsence to cut out this sort of stuff?

"Content filters" isn't what they are usually called here, which may explain the lack of response. "Block lists" or "competitive ad filters" are the common terms.

There are loads of threads here about using your "block list" to block MFA sites, ebay affiliates, and such dreck.

I haven't seen ads for psychics on my site at all. I suspect that there must be keywords on your pages that attract those ads.

As to what decides that shows, Google tells us that the first ad is the one that their algo determines will produce the best income. They take CTR and bid price into account, so an ad that gets lots of clicks but has a low bid might outrank an ad that has a low CTR and a higher bid.

Other than blocking advertisers you don't like, something else that mght help is "section targeting." Do a search on it at the AdSense Help area.

Good luck.

I assume you're talking about your page with the title "Pentagons psychic spies".

Adverts about psychics might well be the most relevant type of ad for this page, so give the ads a chance before you take action.

If this isn't the page you're talking about, and psychic ads are not relevant to the page in question, then take a look at the section targeting markers that tell AdSense which blocks of text to concentrate on and which to try to ignore.

Google AdSense Help Center: Section Targeting [google.com]

(Why has that page been suddenly tucked away somewhere difficult-to-find in the Help Center? It used to be the first link in the optimization category. Does this mean they're trying to phase it out?)
