Sunday seems to be steaming throughout much of Europe and, from what I've read, Nth America.

My traffic's way down, I had to check the SERPs to ensure I hadn't been hit by an unknown update!

Still, it's giving me the chance to update some sites and try out a couple of ideas I've wanted to implement for a while and to test a subliminal, web-learning theory that some of us have been arguing about in the pub.

It sounds complicated however it is not, all I am doing is seeing is if web newbies understand traditional blue links better than "my site blended" links and if it also has an affect on "ad-blindness".

It may possibly affect regular visitors too, this will be the interesting test to try and evaluate whether return visitors' CTRs' increase.

Do you know what? As strange as it may seem, the good ol' traditional blue links do look good:-)

Yup... the weather is great here in NE US as well. My traffic has been off by about 40% since Thursday and while there have been some slight eCPM dips over the weekend, I think my diminishment of earnings is simply being caused by people doing what they should with nice summer weather. DRAT!

Maybe it'll rain later... everywhere! ;-)

>good ol' traditional blue

[Pssst] don't tell anyone else, but did you try a lighter shade of blue? I found it draws immediate attention specially when the rest of the page's links are standard blue.[/Pssst]
Yeah blue is king.

traffic from spring (5,000 uniques)

normally

100% weekdays 80% weekends

summer until now

80% weekdays 60% weekends

now

80% weekdays 40% weekends

The only encouraging thing is that I boosted normal traffic 20% in june by buying 2 links on other sites from ny niche. When September comes I'll be at 120% of the spring and it is softening the drop occuring now.

Hobbs, nice suggestion. I'm going to try that a few places.

Yeah blue is king.

Sunday's always have a much higher CTR for me so I'll give it a few days however at the moment it's looking very good even compared with good Sundays.

[pssst]I like the idea Hobbs, slightly naughty but nice:-)[/pssst]

I agree, blue is king.

After yesterday, (the lowest earnings day this month), today is looking fairly decent.

did you try a lighter shade of blue?

I'd be cautious that this isn't in violation of some RFC mandating the blue be #0000FF!

Could be trouble! ;-)

If the heat wave goes on, power outages could affect traffic, too!

July is also a very popular month for vacations in the U.S. - with June and August both being close seconds and thirds.

Unless you're in the travel sector, it's not surprising to see a slow-down... though one would think with the current heat wave in the U.S., people would be staying inside - go figure! ;)

Erm - why? How come a heatwave knocks out power?

And Ann - it's the 17th! You promised not to keep us in suspense any longer!

How come a heatwave knocks out power?

happens here all the time... heatwave makes people hot. they turn on ALL their air-conditioning. power supplier can't handle the load. pooof. darkness for 3 hours (if I'm lucky) .... which leaves me with a lot of time to wonder if everyone else has power and is clicking on my ads...

... and if I've missed Ann's big revelation....

This past Friday and Saturday provided my lowest AdSense earnings so far this month, but Sunday was a good day.

I wish I could make them all good days!

Andrew & David,

Either ann has nothing, or making it so good she's woried that sharing would affect her ernings.

nah... from her posts, Ann seems like a wise ol' gal who won't blow fake smoke. She's stoking the fire... making it hot...getting us all heated up...

(notice the shameless kissing up?) ; ]

LOL!
