Daily ad click totals being shaved by more than half

How common is it for AdSense daily click totals and revenue to be shaved by 50 percent or closer to two thirds?

This is not a once and a while anomaly. It has been this way for many months. Each month the ratio of clicks recorded to what actually gets credited seems to deteriorate a little bit more.

Example Feb 2015 saw 848 ad clicks with 286 credited.

Clawbacks on my sites run at about 30-40%. Which is not so surprising, given that a lot of my visitors are passers-by and non-buyers who come for information, not products. Plus the occasional click bomber.

That's usually a traffic quality issue, so you want to take a look at your traffic and see if you notice any anomalies about where it's coming from and what it's doing. You could also be a target for ad clicking bots (yes, they exist) Once I started cleaning things up and blocking IP blocks and certain parts of the world that were not relevant to me, My clawbacks dropped to near zero. But it's a lot of work.

Thanks to you both for the feedback.

I fall a bit short of fitting anything but the most basic description of a webmaster. Digging deep into traffic logs would probably be fine, but trusting my interpretation to take action steps... no so much.

I have a lot going on with the site netmeg. I have been reading here off and on for more maybe 2 years. After reading a comment of yours, I went looking for you a couple weeks ago. I saw on your site that you are not taking new clients. I really could use some basic help/maintenance for the site.

I am a low key dude with a US focused information site in a highly targeted niche with good reader participation. Traffic is not terrible.

I am a subject expert with enough ability to keep a word press site up. You willing to take a look?

I'm sorry, my peak season is coming up plus I have a major ecommerce relaunch for a client in June. I'm more than swamped. But there's lots of material here if you're wiling to plow through it.

@mkpb - there are a few threads that may help you get a better idea of what is involved if you want better traffic control, the whats and hows for beginners. This is one recent thread: [webmasterworld.com...] and there is a more tutorial type legacy thread here: [webmasterworld.com...]

For people first looking into traffic control there is a lot of information to digest, but when it affects your income it can be worth the time it takes to dig in and learn.

Thanks Not2. I will finish reading through those threads you shared over the weekend.

No worries Netmeg. Hope your summer kicks ass!
