Altering AdSense Generated Code

Does it result in the click through not being recorded - affecting revenue?

I was looking at putting the new WebSearch plus AdSense on to the side menu bar on one or two sites. However the code generated results in a search bar that was to long. I could easily alter the code manually in dreamweaver once it had been pasted so it would fit - but would this cause the code to become unrecognisable to google when there is a click through? Therefore resulting in a loss of potential revenue?

Nope, but it could cause your account to be terminated.

So many people are wanting to put a search in the side column. Hopefully Google will come up with an option with code for this.

AdSense Advisor, Could you suggest this?

You can modify the code, but you must get permission from the AdSense team before doing so - just tell them what you want to do, and they will give you a yes or no. Changing it without permission is against the terms.

I have my websearch code in a side column.

All I did was to create a page with the websearch code modified to fit in the side column, emailed Adsense team about it requesting permission for the code modification and gave them the URL.

They emailed back after a couple of days approving my modification. Told me that they have reviewed our code and that it does comply with their policy of limited modification (modify the length of the text box; display the Google logo, text box, and search button on separate lines).

Just email Adsense team to get permission, and you're off to go.
