I added in the code of websearch to my site and to my dismay it has a white background surrounding the websearch.

Is there any way to change the background of the box to one that matches my site?

That'll show how to change it. The question is what google will think/do. And you're on your own for that, so best ask them and not risk it.

emailed Google on this -- they said no absolutely not. Furthermore, they said don't change anything manually -- if it's not an option in the adsense construction process screen, it's not to be used.

I don't understand why they've done it like this.

Why not separate the code into bits you can't change (ie. the technical implementation) and bits that you can (style, look and feel)?

I have a coloured sidepanel where my current sitesearch sits with a complimentary colour to the sidepanel background. I'd really rather not have a white box sitting incongruously in the sidepanel.

Aside from the background:

I want to give the searchbox a title.
I want to replace "web" with "search the web"
I want to put the site radio button above the web radio button.
I want to add a <label> to the form controls.

Also, why does the HTML in the code look SO odd?
Have they got rid of the trailing slashes on the <br> tags yet? The CAPITAL LETTERS? What's up with the lack of quotes?

I know I shouldn't be using WW as a sounding board, but it took AdSense four days to reply to my first email, in which they explained that at the moment, we can do very little to change the appearance of the box aside from modifying the length of the search field and stacking everything vertically. (And AdSenseAdvisor has been conspicuous by his, err, absence).

If anyone from Google is listening, please can we have an "Advanced Customisation" page which shows the technical code which MUST be implemented and otherwise allows designers, to rewrite the code in CSS and XHTML, or whatever they want.

(And a Google logo with a transparent background, please).
