A vote of thanks

Around this time, a year back Google Adsense was started.

I was new to websites. I thought, the oppurtunity to make money with amazon was the best thing that could happen to my newly launched site. I was wrong. By a big margin.

It will not be wrong to say that Google has changed my life since then. There has been a lots of ups and downs in the past year. April was hard for me as well.

But in the end, all I have to say is a single word, Thanks.

Nice posts, guys. As some of you, I also havily rely on adsense - I developed several websites during this year specifically aimed to profit from adsense.

And the more I rely on adsense, the more I think what if google cancels the program? I really feel unsecured about it. Without adsense I would make 5-6 times less money from my sites.

What about you? How do you compare adsense with alternative sources of internet income?

Even I feel unsecured about Google canceling adsense. The problem is sources of revenue are very much limited to small websites. They have no other option but to rely on adsense.

For my editorial site, AdSense revenues are comparable to earnings from my better affiliate programs. Depending on the time on year, AdSense might rank anywhere from #1 to #3 as a revenue source.

Some of the things I like about AdSense:

1) It lets me monetize pages that otherwise might be "loss leaders" in terms of revenue (e.g., a cruise review or an article about a destination that isn't covered by one of my hotel affiliate programs).

2) It generates income from every click and pays fairly quickly, which helps with cash flow at times of the year when affiliate payments are down.

3) It's a nearly 100% labor-free, plug-and-play revenue source. Pop in the code, upload the pages, and the money starts flowing.

Ya I have a fear of losing it but I guess that just makes me stay a white hat.

The income that i get really helped me to realize that I was a good webmaster.
It's hard to get recognition from others that don't understand what I do.
However the checks I get is the only validation i need.

Lets hope it stays around for at least another year!

The first time I joined Adsense I was only expecting enough revenue to pay for hosting but now, though I don't earn a lot, it pays some of my bills. Thanks Google.

Yea, Google Adsense would be great just if there wasn't the problem with getting paid. WHY USE CHECKS?! I don't get it why a modern society as the USA still use checks as a means of payment. Personally I haven't been in contact with checks since the mid 80's. Frankly I thought checks was something of the past. In Sweden it's very expensive to get cash from a check, between US$20 and US$130 at the banks I've been in contact with, just because nobody use them anymore. The banks just looks at me like I was from the 80's or something and ask me why Google can't send the money electronically like we do on every transaction nowadays in Sweden anyway.

Full marks to Google for an excellently thought out value-based revenue creator. Not only does it monetise pages and sites which otherwise might have little chance of bringing in revenue, but by doing so it encourages more original writing on special interest topics on the internet, and puts more niche interest consumers in touch with niche product merchants.

Because of AdSense, there are commercially viable content-based websites on the internet today which simply wouldn't have been around a year ago.

I have been on the Web for many years and never have I experienced changes like the arrival of Adsense. From the publisher's point of view it is a revolution.

I can only say to Google "thank you for the AdSense program, it has changed my (web)life dramatically for the better"

alika was correct in saying it's a Ferrari.

I receive no recognition from anyone as nobody that I know really understands what I do.

I also work for a major internet company (parent company is worth billions)in a particular country and everyone at works seems to believe that I am a drug dealer as I live very well.

They have no idea what I do outside outside of work. If they did I would be marched out the door.

The recognition is not important to me but I believe that it will come one day ;)

Adsense has taken so much pressure off of the financial side of our website in which we can now focus on what really matters; content and visitor experience.

Yes, it's an incredible program. From the first moment I encountered Google as just a search engine, I loved it. That it can provide me with a means of supporting my family just makes me that much more grateful.

I second or third or 50th that motion. A pre formated template page with the adsense in it already, slap some text down and it is a money tree.

Well, I'm going to jump on this bandwagon as well because one has to give credit where credit is due, despite some bumpy times together.

Adsense is 40 percent of my income and has allowed me to "fire" some abusive, unethical affiliate managers that needed it.

It is the freedom it provides to really enjoy creating and spending more time doing everything we always wanted to do with our website. We have grown so much in the last year than we have in our first 3 years.

That, in my opinion, is its real strength.

The other side benefit of AdSense I have noticed is with "exit clicks" - users come to your site looking for "shiny blue widgets with knobs on" (a very specific search returning low results which you rank for, but are not really what they're looking for) and seeing a topical AdSense ad which is really what they want.

So rather than clicking the "back" button and heading back to google, they exit your site via AdSense.

I am constantly amazed by how AdSense can have targetted ads within seconds - something which would be impossible for us to do privately.
