Adsense Competitors

I like Adsense, just wondering what else is there.

I started using Adsense a few weeks ago, and I am quite satisified and plan to stay with them.

More out of curiosity, do they have any similar targeted advertising competitors?

textads.biz

much much smaller and modest - text ads served from third party but advertisers can choose between sites and the owner can refuse advertisers.

bot even sure if it qualifies as "cntent targeted" but it certainly qualifies as text ads!

Needs far more inventory and publishers/advertisers but its being running for over a year with some good ideas. On terms of scale though, its plankton!

textads.biz seems to be a CPM model, rather than CPC.

And on their FAQ they repeadly give examples of $1 / 1000 impressions, of which the publisher gets $0.83

Anyone here getting as low an equivalent CPM on AdSense? I don't think so!

thanks devlin. yes it looks like CPM

Two features i like

1. the publisher can set their own CPM rate (this may be in the new version

2. Rather then just "Ads by google" the sign up link for advertisers in served sites tells them they can advertise on THAT site only, or any sites they want.

Just might be a useful thing to keep in the back of the mind when the famed fradulanet click email comes a' knockin'!

Please note im not an expert on this, but did have a quick look a few months back. I wonder if any WebmasterWorld members are using it?

I wonder whether CPM is a dying breed of advertising especually now AdSense has emerged. Would I advertise on CPM - no.

I prefer my advertisers (unless direct of course) to pay per click and for me to receive payment per click.

Other people have discussed doubleclick but am not sure how that works as I have never looked into ti.

textads.bit seems to be most usefull as a drop in ad inventory management, rather then writing your own inhouse use textads. With the added bonus of gettign advertisers through textads.biz. But since the later seems to be less likely due to small scale, I think it will act mostly like an inventory manager.

Quite a different premise from adsense. Might be used on untargetable pages, or even on specific types of pages instead of adsense.

Does anyone know how much it would cost to produce your own AdSense model by which different advertisers bid x amount etc for keywords and then ads are targetted according to the page. (but that runs only on your own pages)

Re: textads.biz
It looks like the return is a small fraction of what can be make from Adsense.

Two others are contentsprinks by Sprinks and ContentMatch by Overture. I believe there is a minimal amount of impressions required for them not sure what they are though.
