AdSense more conservative on site themes now?

More PSAs, less guessing?

I've noticed on my own sites, which have been beutifully targed for a long time, that adsense seems more conservative about guessing site wide themes and is more likely to show PSAs now.

A brand new site, showed targeted ads straight away, but now that I moved it onto it's proper domain, only PSAs :(

What gives?

I have noticed targeted ads on a page, only to notice psa's on it some hours later.

Forget about an online website, if I have a file on my local computer and the file is called as widget.html and contains the adsense code, it displays ads related to widget locally.

So there is no question of mediapartners bot here.

Yes, there is. when it's not spidered they only use the URL for targeting. If you rename thefile to widgots, you're not going to get widgets ads anymore.

As soon it is spidered it only useds that data for targeting.

Are you sure about that Kilroy? I'm not doubting you just wanted to know why you think that and how confident you are?

Fleapit:

I'm sure about it. If you want to see for yourself, add a?keyword1+keyword2 to a URL on your site. You'll find that most likely, the ads will now be targeted to these keywords.

Exactly, and if you try the?keyword1+keyword2 URL again te day after you willfind it's been spidered and retargeted.

Interesting!

So on one hand, this COULD be useful for improving targeting (benefiting you, Google, and your site visitors)... e.g., adding yoursite.com/section/?hi_google=car%20insurance, right?

But on the other hand, wouldn't these modified links wreak havoc with your PR values?

Not to mention the whole issue of duplicate content. Google views www.domain.com and www.domain.com?kw1+kw2 as two different URLs, and with the new duplicate content filter, it could cause major problems.

Hehe, what I think it is REALLY interesting for is:

domain.com/mysitesearch?q=search+words

;)

I have just tested it and it works LOL
