After seeing GotoMyPC mentioned in another thread, I downloaded it and gave it a try. Let me tell you, it's great!

I travel frequently and I've been looking for a way to check my AdSense stats from different ISPs around the country without putting my account in jeopardy. Thanks to irock's suggestion I just found it.

Even better, I can access [b]everything[b] on my PC from anywhere.

In a nutshell, if you travel and want to safely check your stats while on the road, check it out!

(Before anyone asks, I have no affiliation with GotoMyPC at all.)

For those with shell access to a *nix box on a static IP (at a data center, your office or at home), another suggestion is to login to the box via SSH, then access the AdSense reporting interface via a text browser such as lynx. If you do that as a habit, you will always access the reporting interface from the same single IP address. And unless you or other users on that box access your AdSense publisher web site, the risk of the same IP address being used to click an AdSense ad accidentally by you (or by someone other than you) from an IP used to access the reports would be zero.

Forgive me if I am skeptical, given how much over-the-top marketing gtmpc have done. What, exactly, is so precious about this program?

As I recall, Citrix has had serious security issues in the past, and continued selling their ICA client as secure even while patches were being prepared over many months time. SecurityFocus has over 500 posts related to citrix security issues.

Their privacy policy makes it clear they are a form of adware (bold added):

Citrix Online also collects certain standard information about your computer for security and identification purposes. This information may include: IP addresses, domain name, access times, network adaptor MAC addresses and the primary disk-drive serial number of machines that have the GoToMyPC software downloaded and installed. This information is used for the operation of the service, [b]to identify ... our customers[.b] and to control unauthorized use or abuse of our services....

...This privacy policy is subject to change at the sole discretion of Citrix Online....

I would need some very, very good reason to use software which collected my MAC address and hard drive serial number, while tracking my activities, with an expressed intent to identify me.

birdstuff, you are most welcome.

When you think about it, those webmaster sites that teach people how to make money from affiliates can put this 'gotomypc thing' as a tip for people who like to check adsense anywhere. And at the end of the tip, they can point to gotomypc affiliate program so people can sign up.

I just checked... gotomypc is offering $30 for the subscriptions... not too shabby...

I was wondering also if gotomypc will serve as great PSA backfill for adsense as well.

Anything particularly wrong with XP's built-in remote access software? A bit slow, but great if you have access to broadband.

Considering none of my business trips are ever more than 2 weeks 3 at tops I simply do not log in. Why bother, what will be, and I have a nice or unpleasant surprise when I get back!
